FAQs

  • Can the LifeStraw Go be frozen?

If your LifeStraw has been used, and is then exposed to freezing temperatures, water inside can freeze and crack the filter. You may not see these cracks, so we recommend never letting it freeze once it’s been used. When camping at high elevations or freezing temperatures, be extra careful not to let it freeze.

  • Is the LifeStraw Go BPA Free?

Yes it is BPA free and completely safe to drink through.

  • Why does my LifeStraw Go have a plastic taste?

If you find there is a “new-plastic” taste when you first use your LifeStraw Go, we recommend holding it under the tap and running water through it, or sucking some water up and then spitting it out. The taste should go away after the first couple of uses. There are no chemicals in LifeStraw filters, and the hollow fiber membrane technology does not impart any taste into the water.

  • Is the LifeStraw Go dishwasher safe?

No. The heat of the dishwasher could warp the casing and possibly damage the filter. To clean, simply rinse with water, and leave uncapped to dry.

  • Can the LifeStraw Go be used on sea water?

LifeStraw cannot remove salt and cannot be used on sea water, ocean water or brackish water.

  • Does the LifeStraw Go filter out heavy metals, chemicals or viruses?

The LifeStraw Go is designed for hikers, campers, travellers and other outdoor enthusiasts. It will filter out 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria and 99.9% of waterborne protozoa. Chemicals, salt water, heavy metals and viruses will not be removed. If you are looking for a high capacity filter to remove viruses, the LifeStraw Mission and LifeStraw Family 1.0 remove 99.999% of viruses.

  • How do I clean my LifeStraw Go?

After every use, remove the top of the bottle and back-flush your LifeStraw Go by blowing a breath of air back into the mouthpiece to purge all remaining water trapped within the filter. If you have access to clean water, suck some into the filter and back-flush it again. Leave the cap of the LifeStraw Go open until the product fully dries before storage.

  • I’m having trouble sucking water through my LifeStraw Go – any tips?

When you use your LifeStraw Go for the first time, or when the filter is completely dry (after storing, for example), it takes a little longer to prime the filter. After filling the bottle at least half full, we recommend letting the filter sit in the water for 30 seconds before using. This will help get the membranes moist and make it easier to pull water through.

  • Can I replace the filter in my LifeStraw Go bottle?

Yes- you can get a LifeStraw Go filter replacement.

  • How will I know when the LifeStraw Go has reached the end of its life?

The flow rate of your LifeStraw Go will decrease, and then stop pulling water through once it reaches the end of its life. You can increase the lifespan by cleaning the LifeStraw Go after each use. The great thing is, you can never drink contaminated water from a LifeStraw Go; when the water stops flowing through it, you know it is time for a new one!
