God was "Speak(ing) To Me"!

CIRCA - sometime in the late 1970s...........

I hear the thud-thud-thud of an oncoming steam engine train. as the train approaches closer, I hear the clanking of its engines. Two voice are mumbling in the background - barely audible due to the loud noise of the approaching train.

1st Voice - "I've been mad for f***ing years, absolutely years. I've been over the edge for yonks. Working with bands so long I'm cranking."

2nd Voice - "I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us. Very hard to explain why you're mad, even if you're not mad."

And then there is a third guy laughing in the background. The kind of weird, yet psyched-out laughter that gets your hackles up and gives you the heebie-jeebies. The guy keeps laughing as the train approaches closer and closer. The noise of the train peaks with a ear piercing whistle/screech; and suddenly that ear-bursting noise dissolves into some of the best musical notes I have ever heard in my lifetime.

I was a believer, in less than a minute and a half. I had found my God of Music!!! And this God was "Speak(ing) To Me"! :-D

"The Dark Side of the Moon" was my 1st experience of what the future of music was going to be like. Pink Floyd took me to another space in the universe, spun me around the "Dark Side", wrung me back and left me totally wrangled, hooked and gasping for more. And with this verse they baptised me for good. I could "check out any time, but never leave".

"And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking. Racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in the relative way, but you're older. Shorter of breath and one day closer to death."

That's it, it was all over! All the other musical greats and artistes paled in comparison. At the end of it all, they were all "Eclipse(d)".

To the teenager me, I didn't need anything more in life. I had already achieved 'Nirvana'. LOLZ!!! :-D

Pink Floyd is yet another outstanding example of the contribution of Britain (more such examples will follow in this Music Category), to the International English Music scene. Distinguished by their use of philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation, and elaborate live shows, they are one of the most commercially successful and musically influential groups in the history of popular music. Pink Floyd achieved critical and commercial success with the concept albums The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), The Wall (1979) and The Final Cut (1983).

Clockwise From Top Left - Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason

The core group members who took them to commercial success were - Roger Waters - Singer, Songwriter and Composer. David Gilmour - Guitarist, Lead Vocalist and Songwriter. Nick Mason - Drummer. Richard Wright - Pianist and Keyboardist.
